How Promotion Requirements Work
RAF promotion requirements are designed to reward active service, experience, leadership, training, and professionalism.
Requirements Stack
Unless a requirement specifically says otherwise, completed requirements continue to count toward future promotions.
- Total service time carries forward.
- Event attendance carries forward.
- Completed courses and certifications remain valid unless revoked or expired.
- Awards and recognized qualifications continue to count.
Rank-Specific Requirements
Some requirements must be completed while holding a specific rank. These do not carry backward from earlier service.
For example, if a requirement says “Lead 3 events as a Captain,” those events must be led while you are serving as a Captain.
Service Time
Unless otherwise stated, service requirements refer to your total time serving in RAF.
If Captain requires 3 months of service, you need 3 months total, not an additional 3 months after reaching First Lieutenant.
Good Standing
Promotions are not automatic simply because requirements have been completed.
Personnel must remain active, professional, and in good standing. Command may delay a promotion when conduct or performance does not meet RAF standards.

Every RAF member follows the same progression through the enlisted ranks until reaching Sergeant.
Sergeant Is the Career Split
Once you reach Sergeant, you must choose whether to continue as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer or pursue a commission as an officer.

Senior NCOs may later apply to become officers, but they must complete all officer certification and commissioning requirements. Once a member commissions as an officer, they no longer progress through the Senior NCO rank structure.
Enlisted Requirements
All RAF personnel begin through the enlisted progression before reaching the Non-Commissioned Officer level.
- Basic Training: Successfully complete one official Basic Training at Fort Robloxian.
- 3 Days of Service: Serve in RAF for at least 3 total days.
- Activity: Attend at least 2 official RAF events.
- Good Standing: Have no active disciplinary punishment.
- 5 Days of Service: Serve in RAF for at least 5 total days.
- NCO Application: Successfully complete the Non-Commissioned Officer Application.
- Event Experience: Attend at least 3 official RAF events.
- Leadership Evaluation: Demonstrate professionalism, maturity, basic leadership, and knowledge of RAF regulations.
Senior NCO Requirements
Personnel who choose the Senior NCO path continue developing as trainers, supervisors, mentors, and enlisted leaders.
- 10 Days of Service
- NCO Course: Successfully complete the official RAF NCO Course.
- Divisional Membership: Be an active member of an RAF division.
- Leadership Experience: Assist with or help lead at least 2 official trainings or events.
- Good Standing: Have no active disciplinary strikes.
- 1 Month of Service
- Divisional Service: Serve actively within an RAF division for at least 1 week.
- NCO Activity: Participate in at least 4 official RAF events.
- Training Experience: Assist with at least 2 trainings or official events.
- 2 Months of Service
- Senior NCO Experience: Demonstrate consistent leadership and activity within a division.
- Training Leadership: Lead or supervise at least 3 trainings or official events.
- Written Approval: Receive approval from the Command Sergeant Major or appropriate command authority.
- Good Standing: Have no active disciplinary strikes.
- 3 Months of Service
- Senior Leadership Experience: Demonstrate exceptional performance as a Senior NCO.
- Command Recommendation: Receive a recommendation from divisional or senior command.
- Chief of Defense Appointment: Command Sergeant Major is an appointed position selected by the Chief of Defense.
Officer Requirements
Personnel pursuing a commission must complete officer training before entering the commissioned rank structure.
- Officer Certification: Hold a valid RAF Officer Certificate.
- Officer Candidate School: Successfully complete all required officer training.
- Divisional Membership: Be actively committed to an RAF division.
- Good Standing: Have no active disciplinary or conduct strikes.
- Command Approval: Receive approval from the appropriate officer-training authority.
- 1 Month of Service
- 1 Week of Divisional Service
- Officer Activity: Participate in at least 4 official RAF events as an officer.
- Leadership Experience: Assist with or lead at least 2 official RAF events.
- Conduct: Complete 3 rotations without receiving an officer strike.
- 2 Months of Service
- 2 Weeks of Divisional Service
- Command Experience: Successfully lead at least 3 RAF events, trainings, or operations.
- Written Approval: Receive signed approval from a Lieutenant Colonel or above.
- Good Standing: Maintain a satisfactory officer record.
- 3 Months of Service
- 3 Weeks of Divisional Service
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrate consistent leadership within a division or RAF command.
- Event Leadership: Lead or supervise at least 5 official events or operations.
- Written Approval: Receive signed approval from a Brigadier General or above.
- 4 Months of Service
- DOJ Certification: Hold a valid Department of Justice certification.
- Command Experience: Serve in a divisional staff, command, or equivalent leadership position.
- Officer Evaluation: Pass a senior officer leadership review.
- Professional Standing: Maintain a clean recent disciplinary record.
- RAF Portrait & Formal Uniform: Maintain an appropriate official RAF portrait and formal uniform.
- 5 Months of Service
- Divisional Leadership: Hold or have previously held a significant divisional leadership position.
- Command Performance: Demonstrate successful management of personnel, training, and operations.
- Senior Officer Review: Pass a command performance evaluation.
- Written Approval: Receive approval from a Major General or above.
- 6 Months of Service
- Operational Experience: Participate in at least 2 recognized RAF deployments or major operations.
- Distinguished Service: Hold the Legion of Merit or equivalent distinguished-service recognition.
- Senior Command Experience: Have significant experience commanding or managing an RAF division, department, or major operation.
- Written Approval: Receive approval from a Lieutenant General or above.
- General Officer Experience: Demonstrate successful service as a Brigadier General.
- Senior Leadership: Hold or have held a senior RAF command responsibility.
- Leadership Recognition: Hold a recognized RAF leadership award or equivalent commendation.
- Chief of Defense Approval
- General Staff Experience: Demonstrate successful continued service within RAF senior command.
- Service Recognition: Hold the RAF Service Medal or equivalent distinguished-service recognition.
- Chief of Defense Approval
- Chief of Defense Appointment: General is an appointed rank and may only be granted directly by the Chief of Defense.
